What is reclaimed fabric?

Flannel Fings products are made in Australia from reclaimed fabric. Reclaimed fabric is fabric that is recycled from clothing or manchester that is no longer wanted or suitable for its current use.We purchase these items from charity centres - so buying our products will not only save you money and reduce your baby’s ecological footprint, but also support very important charities! Who would have thought buying for your baby could be so good!

When selecting items to recycle, we favour items made from fabric that is still in great condition - but for some reason the product is no longer considered useful in its current form and is on its way to the rag trade or landfill. Many items of clothing are thrown away due to a small hole, faulty zipper or just because they are no longer considered fashionable. For example, denim jeans are often only in fashion for a season or two and are then thrown away when the denim still has years of life in it. Or perhaps the jeans have a small tear - but otherwise most of the fabric is still in great condition.

To reclaim the fabric we take a piece of recycled clothing, for example a flannelette PJ top, launder it, then cut along all seams so that we end up with a collection of flat pieces of fabric, which are then ironed and finally cut.

This whole process (except laundering, which is done professionally) is undertaken using 100% certified green power.

Why bother?

Every year tons and tons of perfectly good fabric ends up in landfill. A huge amount of precious water and energy goes into growing and manufacturing fabric - so lets make sure we get the most out of it before it ends up in landfill!
